  • If your schedule is too busy for you to consider University Honors, you may wish to consider pursuing Departmental Honors, which incorporates an honors component into courses in the core curriculum in your major in Art, Communication, Dance, Music or Theatre.

Advising:  Seeking frequent advising is very important.  You have two advisors . . .

1. Your Major Advisor in your major department will talk with you about the courses you need to complete your major.  Click on your department to find out information about your major advisor.

 

2. Your General Education Advisor: Kenya Swanson
                                  
Kenya Swanson serves as the University Advising Center Liaison for the College of Fine Performing and Communication Arts. She is especially interested in making sure CFPCA students like YOU successfully complete the general education requirements. To set up an appointment with her call 313-577-2680.  The university's Advising Center is located in the Undergraduate Library.

Undergraduate Bulletin

In order to declare a major (we urge you to do this by 30 credit hours), change your major, decalre a concentration or declare a minor, follow these steps . . .

  • Call the University Advising Center at 313-577-2680 to make an appointment for an on-line Degree Audit of your general education credits.
  • If possible, schedule your general education appointment with Kenya Swanson. She is the general education advising liaison for your college.
  • After the general education audit, the general education advisor will complete the top portion of the Undergraduate Program Change Form.
  • Make an appointment with your major advisor.
  • Your major advisor will review your major requirements with you and amend the on-line Degree Audit as necessary.
  • Present the Undergraduate Program Change Form for signature by your major advisor and the department chair.
  • Bring the completed Undergraduate Program Change Form to the College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts Dean's Office, located in the Linsell House, 5104 Gullen Mall (across Gullen Mall from the Undergraduate Library). The Dean’s Office will process the form.

Kierstin Elliott is a senior dance major pursuing a degree in dance performance. She’s a student representative for her class in the dance department and was a member of Dance CompanyONE, touring to elementary schools in the Detroit area, and is a member of Circle K International. At Wayne State, Kierstin has had the opportunity to work with guest artists Ray Mercer, Nicholas Leichter, Janis Brenner, Sonya Tayeh and Larry Keigwin as well as other choreographers at the American College Dance Festival. In 2010-11, she attended the American Dance Festival Winter Intensive in NYC and the International Blacks Association of Dance conference in LA. She was a featured dancer in Detroit's world premiere of The Key, a musical. She attended the Paul Taylor Dance Intensive in summer ’11, returned to Tibbits Opera House in Coldwater, MI, to perform in Sleeping Beauty and attended the Complexions Contemporary Ballet Summer Intensive at Wayne State, July 2011. Kierstin is a Student Senate Alternate.   Jessica Overton is a senior dance major from Detroit pursuing a BFA in dance performance and choreography. She already has one bachelor’s degree, in political philosophy, from Michigan State. She joined Wayne State’s Student Senate “because I wanted to become involved and to ensure that CFPCA student voices are heard,” she said. “I love meeting new people and hearing their ideas for how their college can work for them. I’ll be attending plenty of CFPCA events so please strike up a conversation.” Jessica serves as the Student Senate's public relations chair.
